Pineapple Hat ver 0.10

Pattern for a hat that looks like a pineapple:

(Caution!!! This has been written from memory, and has not been test knit by anyone else. This may make no sense whatsoever)

Size: Child, (Ladies), Mens
Aprox- 15", 18", and 21" around (Ladies size stretches to fit a 21" head nicley)
Matrerials:
1 skein each Brown Sheep Lambs Pride Bulky (125 yds/113gms) (only ~1/2 skein of each is used)
- yellow
- green

1 size 10.5 16" circular needle (or size needed to obtain gauge)
1 set size 10.5 double pointed needles
tapestry needle
(optional) 20 gauge jewelery wire and wire cutters/pliers

Gauge: 3.5 sts/inch

Stitches used:
Modified 2x2 ribbing: (odd number of stitches)
round 1: k1(p2k2p2)around

Seed stitch: (odd number of stitches)
row 1: k1p1 across
row 2: k1p1 across

Pattern:

CO 55, 65, (75) stitches, with yellow yarn, and place marker at begining of round and join.
Work 5 rounds of modified 2x2 rib decreasing 2 stitches in the last round

Decreases:
Work next 2 rounds 5, 6,(8) times for a total of 12 rounds

after last round, break yarn and pull through remaining stitches.

Fronds: (make 8)
With green yarn, CO 5 sts
Work back and forth in seed stitch until desired length (either 3" or 6")
next row, ssk, k1, k2tog
k3
break yarn and draw through remaining sts.

Making up:
(optional) Cut length of wire to the length of the frond, and thread through purl bumps on one side. Make loops on the ends.

Weave in all ends, and sew fronds to hat.

Place hat on head, then saunter around like you own the place.

Gaming Fail (Epic)

I am a geek. Anybody who knows me knows this. I did something that's geeky even for me, I built my own computer. This computer is by no way top of the line, but it is significantly more upgradeable than the last two computers that I've had (both of them big name laptops). So yesterday, I went to the big-box computer store. I wanted a couple of games to play on my computer now that I have one that will run games without seizing.

So, I'm looking at the PC game selection. The selection however, is not that great. I see the newest WoW expansion, LotR online, Left for Dead, Civilization 4, and a few other FPS games. None of these hold any sort of interest for me at ALL. Okay, there were some Sims there too, but I already have those, so therefore don't need more. I know my reason for not playing FPS games is rather unique, as they make me really motion sick (I have enjoyed them otherwise), but when did the gaming industry stop making games that would appeal to someone like me?

I want a pretty game that will take advantage of my graphics card, but that dosen't require me to overclock my computer to do so. I want something that appeals to me as a woman, yet dosen't make assumptions. There were several games with female leads at the store, but they all looked like they were going to fall over because they were too top heavy. The other games with women on the boxes were things like "Cooking Mama Madness." If I wanted to cook and experience madness, I'd go to my kitchen and do so, I don't need a game to simulate that. It'd be like playing "Driving to work," where the goals are to eat a sandwich and drive in stop and go traffic all the way to work! I like roleplaying games. But I don't want to have to get a MMORPG to play one. I know the general population of the internet, and it is stupid. I don't want to have to interact with them while playing a game. I want a game that makes me think, just a little though. Just shooting the bad guys is not fun, as I'm bad at it, but if I can solve a puzzle and get rewards that way, I'd enjoy it.

Basically, I want a Monkey Island 5 and Diablo 3.

A Simple request really...

I have a few simple requests of everyone that comes into the pharmacy to pick up medications

1. Know the person who you are picking up meds for.
   
• Also know a few simple facts about the person, like date of birth and address. A phone number would be nice as well
  
2. Know something about the insurance.
• I'm not talking about knowing all the details, but knowing if there is coverage, and being able to present a card on demand would be nice, and as an added bonus, knowing the name of the provider.
3. Know how many medications you are looking for and what they are
   
• If you answer "I don't know" to the question of how many, and I come back to you with three and you go, "oh no, that's wrong" then you are to blame, not me.
  
• If you say you don't know what meds the doctor prescribed, but he should have called in something, makes it rather difficult to tell which specific thing you want when you only want one of the three things I have ready for you.
4. Please, stay off the cell phone.
• If you press the drive-thru call button (meaning that you are ready for service) and you are on the cell phone, you are not ready for service
• The cell phone does not need to be dialed the second that I tell you I have a slight issue. Most of the time all I need to do is to look at the insurance card and the issue will be fixed. Or I need to know if you really are allergic to penicillin. You don't need to call somebody to answer these questions. Seriously.
  

Thankfully, these problems can be fixed with tequila.

I got a bonus!

Okay, sometimes I'm a bit of a crazy accurate geek. It's mostly related to the "do I have enough left?" question. Do I have enough time left to stop by this drive through on the way to work? Do I have enough money left to buy this? This time it was; do I have enough yarn left to make another pair of fingerless mittens out of this ball? The ball band said it was a 100g ball of yarn. I weighed what I had left over (on my new and spiffy postal scale) and it was 64g. Woohoo! More than half left!

Just for gits and shiggles I decide to weigh the gloves too. They're 40g. Danger! Danger! Does not compute! I weigh them both again. Still the same. I go and grab the two other skeins (one's only a 50g skein) of the yarn I have, and weigh those too. The other ones also weigh 104g and 52g. It's off by 4% of what it should be.

I look for and don't find anything even vaguely resembling a control, and resort to measuring out 10ml of water and use that as a control. That comes out right. I may have to do more tests to confirm, but KnitPicks seems to include 4% extra yarn. At least on gloss sock yarn.

I wish I was commitment phobic

There are some days that I wish I had a commitment problem. I need to be able to figure out how to say no to new projects. I suck at saying no. Just for the sake of simplicity, I'm going to list my projects for between now and Christmas (well maybe Christmas, maybe whenever I get things done)

• French Sweater
  
• 3 pairs of fingerless gloves for my friends
• Design one pair of fingerless gloves for myself
• two-socks at the same time
• finish the damn hedgehog
• Start on the cardigan I want to wear to Munchkin's wedding in April
• Dye the gloves for my pharmacist for her wedding (need to finish tonight)
• Prepare for taking the PCAT
• Corkboard thing (Should be done by the 12th)
• Really investigate D&D 4e
• Do my training for my thing for work
• Put all my projects on Ravelry
• Apply to pharmacy schools
• Learn to spin? I've heard rumors of a make your own wheel class
• Re-cover my chair so that it matches the rest of my room
• Put up curtains
• Sew the silk skirt
• Make dice bags
• Build my own computer (as a challenge, and this is just whenever I get the money to do it)
  

And I think that's about it. Maybe. Maybe I'll learn to say no. Maybe I won't want to do everything all at once. That's it... Maybe.

Meatloaf free existance?

For the longest time (okay only like 21 years) I had a blissful meatloaf free existence. True, my mom made the dish on occasion, but that didn't happen often. I'm speaking of the singer here. Until recently I could get by without having to listen to Meatloaf, or recognize him in things. Now I'm expected to recognize him in commercials (for phone service none the less) and in movies (such as The Rocky Horror Picture Show). Several people want me to listen to his music, and tell them how great I think it is. I don't like it. There I said it. I don't really like Meatloaf's music. It doesn't appeal to my personal musical tastes. It's not McArthur Park level of bad, but if I had to choose what I listen to, it would not be Meatloaf.

I'd be perfectly happy being an indie chick with my musical tastes. I could like things that nobody else likes ever. (And I think that I kinda-sorta-maybe-on-a-good-day look like Faye from Questionable Content (strip linked is in an early art style, it gets better later) I've already got the butt!)
